News: Franco homers as Phils lose, Quinn hopes to stay healthy

Good morning! Here’s the news:

PHILLIES LOSE: The Rays took down the Phillies Monday in Grapefruit League action, winning by a final of 7-2. The highlight was Maikel Franco’s third spring home run, a no-doubter in the fourth off Ryan Garton. While it’s great to see Franco mashing, remember … it’s early.

Otherwise, Hector Gomez added two late hits and Odubel Herrera doubled (with his first spring bat flip!).

Jerad Eickhoff pitched two relatively fine innings, striking out two and allowing a run. Prospect Drew Anderson had one good inning and one bad inning, but struck out four in the process.

TODAY’S GAME: The Phils stay home to meet the Orioles. Game is at 1:05 p.m. Clay Buchholz will make his spring debut for the Phils.

THE HEALTHY QUINN: One piece to link today: Mike Sielski at the Inquirer has a column about Roman Quinn; specifically about how the speedy outfielder plans to stay healthy in 2017.

We can only hope.
