WATCH: Chris Christie, former Phillies beat writer trash Philly fans

A bunch of SNY guys sat down with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on some show – who cares – to talk about this whole Tug McGraw thing, because news cycles.

And Christie opened his mouth:

“The Phillies suck,” said the politician who had a 21 percent approval rating in his own state in October and, by the way, runs a state a ton of Phillies fans call home. “They’re from Philadelphia, they’re an awful team, they’re an angry, bitter fanbase, and it’s not safe for civilized people to go to Citizens Bank Park if you want to root for the other team.

“Ya gotta believe what? Ya gotta believe we’re awful people, that’s what ya gotta believe.”

Later, former Phillies beat writer Andy Martino, who once called Philly fans among “the most knowledgeable fans” in America, trashed the Phillies fanbase, calling us “ill-informed and angry.”

I don’t know. Sounds like they’re the angry, bitter, ill-informed people.

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
