2017 Phillies Value 50: 20-11

Throughout this week, we’ll unveil the list of the 50 most valuable people to the Phillies’ success in 2017. These are the most valuable people in the Phillies’ organization: The 2017 Phillies Value 50.

Methodology: The team at Phillies Nation each ranked who is most valuable to the Phillies’ success in 2017, from 1-50. We added up the rankings (anyone unranked immediately received a 51), then sorted the list.

Here is 50-41.

Today, 20-11

20. Jorge Alfaro, catcher

The highly touted catcher will stay in triple-A in 2017. If he’s catcher of the future, he’ll prove it here and now.

19. Scott Sheridan, head athletic trainer

Always an important position. Sheridan’s job is to ensure the team is in the best health. He’s done a good job of that in the past – here’s hoping it continues.

18. Bob McClure, pitching coach

McClure has a lot of young arms in his stable. Can one of them emerge as the ace of the staff? And can he head in 2018 with three to four obvious foundation pieces?

17. Roman Quinn, outfielder

The speedy Quinn has already made a good impression. Once he’s in Philadelphia, it’ll be up to him to develop and stay healthy. The future is bright.

16. Odubel Herrera, outfielder

Corey Sharp has more on what Herrera means to the Phillies in 2017

15. Gordon Lakey, major league scouting director

Like pro scouting director Mike Ondo, Lakey will be tasked with scouring the majors for the right future pieces.

14. Scott Proefrock, assistant general manager

13. Ned Rice, assistant general manager

Working with Matt Klentak to transition the roster into win-mode, Proefrock and Rice are both essential voices in the front office.

12. Johnny Almaraz, amateur scouting director

The focus of last year’s rankings because of the Phils’ top draft spot, Almaraz still has a big job in 2017 (heck, he always does). The No. 8 pick is nothing to sneeze at.

11. Sal Agostinelli, international scouting director

Chief of the Phils’ ongoing quest to find the best talent overseas, Agostinelli has unearthed some true gems. The Phils still have good money to spend internationally, so it’ll be interesting to see where they put their funds.

Tim Malcolm

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
