News: Alfaro, Crawford, Williams sent to minors

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

PHILLIES TIE: The Phillies nearly threw a no-hitter Thursday! Seriously!

They took a no-no into the ninth of a 2-0 game against the Orioles, but then Michael Mariot surrendered a couple hits and runs. The game ended in a 2-2 tie.

Oh well.

Vince Velasquez started the game with 3.2 innings of no-hit ball. He also walked four and threw a wild pitch.

After his last start, Velasquez said the umpires may not get along with him. Dude, four walks and a wild pitch?

TODAY’S GAME: It’s the annual St. Patrick’s Day game! The Phils play the Blue Jays at 1:05 p.m. at Spectrum. Aaron Nola is on the bump. Corey Sharp has more on him today.

CUT DAY: The Phillies made the next round of cuts today, and they’re a bit more substantial. Jorge Alfaro, Nick Williams, J.P. Crawford, Cameron Perkins, Taylor Featherston and Pedro Beato are all heading to minor league camp.

Nothing very shocking here. Williams had a good camp, though, and Alfaro showed a lot in the World Baseball Classic. They and Crawford will be back soon.
