News: Roy Halladay likely to return to Phillies as instructor
PHILLIES WIN: The bats continued to lead the way for the Phillies with a 7-5 win over Baltimore on Tuesday. Tommy Joseph and Scott Kingery homered early, while Brock Stassi and Aaron Altherr contributed late.
Stassi seems to be the top hitter to begin the spring, with a .667 average, two homers, six RBI and a 2.548 OPS. Perfectly sustainable. One thing to note – all four home runs were straight bombs. Cool to see Kingery and Altherr crush a couple.
Clay Buchholz was fine in his first appearance, walking one and giving up two hits in two innings. He said he worked at about “80 percent,” which was purposeful, as he was also concerned with getting a feel for the new surroundings and ensuring his release point was sufficient.
Nick Pivetta went three innings and gave up two runs on four hits.
IT’S ROY!: Okay, sorry for burying the lead … Roy Halladay was hanging out at camp this weekend. According to reports, the former Phillie and Blue Jay is likely to work for the Phils as a “uniformed instructor.”
Basically he’d be working with Phils pitchers. Basically that’s fantastic.He’s already making an impression. Read the bit about Pivetta in that Matt Breen piece. To have that kind of (possible) hall of fame presence around the young arms? That’s invaluable.
