Morgan sent to Lehigh Valley; Buchholz to get MRI

A painful, whiplash-inducing 14-4 loss to the Mets on Tuesday took its toll on the Phillies pitching staff.

First, starter Clay Buchholz lasted just 2.1 innings before leaving with what was reported as a right forearm strain. He’ll get an MRI on his flexor tendon Wednesday. His line, by the way, not pretty: eight runs, six hits, one walk, two strikeouts.

Adam Morgan came into the game in the third and promptly surrendered a bunch of home runs. His line … also not pretty: 3.2 innings, seven hits, four runs (four home runs), two walks, five strikeouts.

For his work, Morgan has been sent to triple-A Lehigh Valley. A corresponding roster move will be made Wednesday.

And that move may come after the Phillies know more about Buchholz. Certainly someone like Zach Eflin (five shutout innings, four strikeouts, three walks on Tuesday against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre) could slide into the rotation if Buchholz’s injury is serious.
