News: It’s opening day!

HAPPY OPENING DAY!

A few things before we get you set for 4 p.m.:

GRAPEFRUIT FINALE: The Phillies finished the Grapefruit League with a 14-17 record with a couple ties. The Yankees (24-9) won the league, with the Cardinals and Pirates just behind them. Atlanta (9-22) brought up the rear with the worst record in spring training.

HERRERA IN THE THREE HOLE: David Murphy looks at how Odubel Herrera can thrive as the team’s No. 3 hitter. Pete Mackanin’s lineup has been set for quite a while, and today should be Hernandez/Kendrick/Herrera/Franco/Saunders/Joseph/Rupp/Galvis/Hellickson.

OPENING DAY STARTER:

Speaking of Hellickson, he’s elated to be opening day starter for the second-consecutive year. He’ll face the Reds’ Scott Feldman.

FOLLOW ALONG: The game is at 4:10 p.m. We’ll be live tweeting and posting fun stuff during the game.

Also, the Phillies Nation Podcast drops this morning. Opening day talk! Party! Celebrate!

Tim Malcolm

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
