Promotions: Jorge Alfaro is back, as is Ricardo Pinto

Jorge Alfaro is back in the major leagues.

The Phillies’ top catching prospect has been called up to the big club, and joining him is reliever Ricardo Pinto, according to Matt Gelb.

Gelb reports Andrew Knapp, who was injured Thursday, will not be heading to the disabled list though he’s unable to play. Thus, with just one working catcher on the 25-man roster, the Phils needed a warm body. And, moreover, since Alfaro is the only other catcher on the 40-man roster, it’s an easy move.

Alfaro, a consensus top-10 prospect in the system, is hitting .241/.291/.358 with 22 extra-base hits for Lehigh Valley.

To make room for Alfaro, Ty Kelly was optioned to Lehigh Valley. Expect Alfaro to head back to Lehigh Valley once Knapp is ready to go.

Pinto, meanwhile, is up after the Phils sent down Jake Thompson. Pinto put up a 6.28 ERA with the Phils but has pitched well since his last demotion, putting up 5.1 scoreless for the IronPigs.
