Will Marlins trade Giancarlo Stanton? And to Phillies?

Here’s another Giancarlo Stanton rumor.

It’s time for a daily news report …

The Stanton Derby

This is the news right now in Phillies land, that the Phils could be interested in a Giancarlo Stanton deal. It seems possible the Marlins will deal the elite slugger, and according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports (who seems to be the only writer with these stories), the Phils have been active in asking about Stanton.

The other teams who’ve called a lot? Our best friends: the Cardinals and Giants.

So let’s just say this: Every team is interested in Giancarlo Stanton. He possesses incredible value, he’s likely the National League MVP, and he can transform this lineup from about-average to above-average.

That said, he’s pricey as all get out, so not many teams will really want to engage. That dwindles it down to a handful, of which the Phils will be among them.

So these are rumors we’ll keep hearing.

Podcast

Otherwise it’s a slow time. The postseason has begun and our guys are taking vacations. But the 2009 Phillies of Playing the Rube are not resting. Listen to our OOTP podcast when it drops later today. You’ll get laughter, joy, pain and tears in a burn that feels like it’ll last all lifetime.

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
