Report: Phillies, other teams have submitted offers for Machado

UPDATE (1:03 a.m. Thursday): Ken Rosenthal reports the White Sox have emerged as “the most aggressive suitor” for Machado. His source says Chicago would want to sign him long-term, but if that doesn’t work out, they would be open to flipping him to another team. Rosenthal mentions the Yankees as a possible match.

Nowhere in the piece does Rosenthal mention the Phillies.

Yeesh.

Well, maybe things are happening after all.

Dan Clark, a writer covering the Orioles, reports there are numerous offers on the table for Manny Machado. Teams interested include the Cardnials, White Sox, Yankees, Giants and Phillies.

No word on whether Machado would accept an extension.

The same Clark tweeted that if he “had to guess,” he thinks the Phillies would land Machado over the other teams. The Orioles have been said to want young pitching in a trade, and the White Sox have a great farm system with pitching ready to compete at the major league level. The Phils, of course, have Sixto Sanchez among other arms.

More to come.

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
