Five Phillies were named to Baseball America’s Top 100 Prospects for 2018. They are:

16. J.P. Crawford
25. Sixto Sanchez
31. Scott Kingery
84. Adonis Medina
100. Adam Haseley

Yes, that leaves out Mickey Moniak, which is what has been reported all day. The 2016 No. 1 pick struggled mightily in 2017 with Lakewood, hitting .236/.284/.341 with 109 strikeouts and 28 walks. A year like that will bring down your potential, in the eyes of tastemakers and experts.

This doesn’t mean he’s a bust, not by any means. He’s 19 and played his first full season of baseball in 2017.

Meanwhile it’s good to see Crawford in the top tier or so. Sanchez is rising fast. Kingery, also named the top second base prospect by MLB Pipeline, is definitely turning heads.

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
