Ideas for Phillies’ potential friendly bet with the Twins

Here’s another piece by our new contributor, Brendan Sample.

As we inch ever so closer to the reporting date for pitchers and catchers, and the anticipation for baseball to return grows longer every day, one thing you can count on is that the Phillies social media team will help to make the waiting just a little bit shorter. One of the group’s latest efforts to make the offseason entertaining was capitalizing on the Eagles’ current playoff run by making a friendly wager with the Braves.

The day before the Eagles played the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Divisional Playoffs, the Phillies’ Twitter account called the Braves out for a challenge. The Bravos accepted, agreeing to send over Chick-fil-A to the Phils if the Eagles won but also dictating that they would get something from Philly if the Falcons won. Though neither team specified what exactly the Phils would have to send over (it would’ve definitely been cheesesteaks), the Eagles’ win on Saturday meant that the Phillies only had to worry about how and when they’d be getting their chicken. (Fingers crossed that they’ll give it away to fans at a home game next season.)

With the Eagles now looking toward facing the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship, it’ll surely be just a matter of time before the Phils call out the Twins for another bet. But what will be on the line this time around? Chick-fil-A is based in Georgia, so the Twins could wager sending over Dairy Queen

or Buffalo Wild Wings, by that logic.

Of course, that’s assuming the two teams will be gambling with food. The Eagles and Vikings will be playing for a chance to go to the Super Bowl, so it would only make sense that the stakes would be higher. Perhaps one team’s front office will have to wear Eagles or Vikings jerseys, or they could compete for full ownership of their jointly owned training academy in the Dominican Republic. Maybe we could even get Brian Dozier or Byron Buxton in a bet? (I can dream. Besides, there’s no way I’d want the Phils to put Rhys on the line.) Whatever the wager, the Phillies will surely be saving their best idea in the event that the Eagles make it to the Super Bowl.
