Morning News: Nick Williams smashes Kapler’s car with home run ball

Here are your morning news bits …

Nope, not here: No Jake Arrieta updates (surprise!), but Nick Williams slammed a home run ball that hit Gabe Kapler’s rental car.

“The car can go in the shop, I don’t need to see it for a long time. I’ll get another rental. I want as many Nick Williams home runs as possible,” said the skipper.

K-Rod Report: Todd Zolecki also had an early report on Francisco Rodriguez, the former relief ace who’s trying to catch on in camp. Kapler said he looked “very competitive.”

Q&A with Mallee: Meghan Montemurro at the Athletic has a Q&A with Phils hitting coach John Mallee, who’s emphasizing smart baserunning along with patience.

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
