TONIGHT: Phillies Nation Book Club Discussion on Dick Allen

As previously announced, the second book we’ll be reading in the Phillies Nation Book Club is the autobiography Crash – The Life and Times of Dick AllenDick “Don’t Call Me Richie” Allen was named Rookie of the Year in 1964.  The highs of winning the award along with the lows of losing the pennant in dramatic fashion foretold his tumultuous career ahead.  He smashed baseballs farther than anybody in Philadelphia had ever seen; yet many fans despised him due to his boorish behavior and his race.  “He was as enigmatic as he was recalcitrant,” as the book describes.

Tonight, February 12th from 6:30 to 8:30pm we will host a panel discussion on the book at Holy Family University’s Northeast Philadelphia campus (ETC Building).  Leading the discussion will be:

  • Frank Fitzpatrick – Editor and Writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer since 1980.
  • Mitchell Nathanson – Professor of Sports Law at Villanova University and author of a book on Dick Allen
  • Brian Michael – Phillies Nation, CEO/Founder and the Sports Marketing-Management Coordinator at Holy Family University will be the moderator

Audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions at the event and readers can submit questions in advance.

We hope you all can participate by reading the book (if you haven’t already) and attending the event (just days before pitchers and catchers report!).
