Gameday 2018: Phillies (1-1) at Braves (1-1)

Will the Phillies take their first series of the year?

Will they use more than seven pitchers?

Will Vince Velasquez go past the fourth inning?

Will the game last more than four hours?

All these questions, and more, will be answered tonight! The Phillies visit the Braves before heading up to Citi Field.

Gametime: 7:10 p.m.

The lineup:

  1. Hernandez – 2B
  2. Santana – 1B
  3. Herrera – CF
  4. Hoskins – LF
  5. Altherr – RF
  6. Kingery – SS
  7. Franco – 3B
  8. Alfaro – C
  9. Velasquez – P

Pitchers: Vince Velasquez (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Brandon McCarthy (0-0, 0.00 ERA)

Scott Kingery plays his second position of the young season, getting in at shortstop and giving J.P. Crawford a rest day. Maikel Franco is back in at third base. Jorge Alfaro is also starting, while the rest of the lineup is similar to Friday.

Your Gameday Beer: SweetWater is the big kahuna in Atlanta; their beer is decent, and my favorite of theirs is Happy Ending Imperial Stout. I don’t love thick stouts, so this one – with a decent mix of hops and cocoa-tinged sweetness – is pretty fine for a dessert beer. At 9 percent ABV it’s not quite a punchout, but you’re going to just want one. Hopefully tonight is a happy ending (think clean, Nation) with a Phils win.

Go Phillies! (and Go Nova!)

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
