Gameday 2018: Blue Jays (24-28) at Phillies (29-20)

The Phillies are in first place on Memorial Day weekend. That’s pretty awesome.

Hopefully the boys can take the series against Toronto. If they do, they’ll be 30-20 after 50, good for a .600 winning percentage. Also pretty awesome.

Gametime: 1:35 p.m.

The lineup:

  1. Hernandez – 2B
  2. Hoskins – LF
  3. Franco – 3B
  4. Santana – 1B
  5. Altherr – CF
  6. Williams – RF
  7. Kingery – SS
  8. Knapp – C
  9. Pivetta – P

Pitchers: Nick Pivetta (4-2, 3.23 ERA) vs. JA Happ (6-3, 3.97 ERA)

Former Phillie JA Happ has had quite the career. Now 35, Happ is nearing 100 wins (98-79) with a lifetime 3.93 ERA, 1,235 strikeouts and 521 walks. He’s been the definition of a quality starter.

Interestingly, Gabe Kapler has elected today be the day to sit Odubel Herrera. Part of it is the lefty-lefty thing, but then again, Nick Williams is starting. Either way, the boys will really need someone to step up today with their best offensive player on the bench.

Your Gameday Beer: I choose a red ale today: Blazing World by Modern Times. Hoppy but dry on the finish, it’s a nice little complex beer perfect for Sunday sipping.

Go Phillies!

With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well.
