Philadelphia Phillies general manager Matt Klentak’s front-office has been quite active before Tuesday afternoon’s 4 p.m. ET non-waiver trade deadline. Shortly after the team acquired catcher Wilson Ramos from the Tampa Bay Rays, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet Ca reported that the Phillies acquired left-handed reliever Aaron Loup from the Toronto Blue Jays.

As noted in Nicholson-Smith’s piece, Loup, 30, was the longest-tenured Blue Jay prior to this trade. His career-best season came in 2013, when he posted a 2.47 ERA and 3.32 FIP in 64 games. Loup currently has a 4.54 ERA and a 3.61 ERA in 50 games. He has a 5.87 ERA in 13 appearances in July, so the Phillies appear to be banking on a change of scenery allowing Loup to bounce-back.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com says that Jacob Waguespack, who currently has a 5.06 ERA in 14 games (eight of which are starts) for Triple-A Lehigh Valley, will head to Toronto in the trade.

Loup will be a free-agent at the conclusion of the 2018 season.
