Video: Bryce Harper launches first home run as a Phillie

It took Bryce Harper eight plate appearances as a Philadelphia Phillie to record his first hit with the team. It took the six-time All-Star eight plate appearances as a Phillie to record his first home run with his new club.

And Harper didn’t get cheated on his first home run with the Phillies.

Harper, who signed a 13-year/$330 million free-agent contract to join the Phillies last month, hit a titanic home run into the second deck in right field in the bottom of the seventh inning:

After the home run, the 26-year-old right fielder received a curtain call, one that he seemingly enjoyed quite a bit:

Harper’s home run was estimated to have traveled 465 feet. When he trotted back out to right field for the top of the eighth inning, he received a standing ovation from the fans at Citizens Bank Park.

Harper wasn’t the only new Phillie to hit his first home run of the season Saturday. J.T. Realmuto, who received his 2018 Silver Slugger Award before the game, hitting a 434-foot home run in the home half of the fifth inning.
