“The Baron” is the former Philadelphia Phillies head of community relations, a role in which he served the organization for more than four decades. Larry is also a 2018 inductee to the Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame.

In addition to the Phillies alumni and history work which Larry shares with readers here at Phillies Nation, his “Minor League Report” pieces now also run with us all during the season as well.

Lehigh Valley, International League North Division

**IronPigs (27–25) lost, 7–4, at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to fall four games behind the first-place RailRiders . . . LV, tied with Syracuse for second place, scored a run in the first and three in the ninth in losing third straight game . . . Series ends at 1:05 this afternoon, Tom Eshelman (1–0, 1–3 overall).

Pitching: LP: Drew Anderson (0–5), 6–6–4–4–2–6; career-high 3 HR . . . Tom Windle, 1–2–2–2–2–1 . . . Josh Martin, 1–1–1–1–1–0.

Hitting: Four SWB hurlers held the IronPigs to six hits while striking out 13 . . . Six different LV batters had a hit . . . RF Lane Adams homered leading off the game (#11) . . . 1B Damek Tomscha and CF Malquin Canelo, RBI doubles in the ninth.

Reading, Eastern League Eastern Division

**Fightin Phils (30–21) swept a doubleheader (7-inning games) from the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Winning two one-run decisions, Reading is 10–4 in one-run games . . . Series concludes at 2:15 this afternoon, JoJo Romero (0–2) . . . Fightins are in fourth place, two games out of first place

Game #1: 2–1 win. Winners had three hits, losers two.

Pitching: WP: Adonis Medina (3–2), won his third straight, 5.2–2–1–1–3–3, hit batter; run came in the first inning; two hits allowed were singles . . . Jakob Hernandez, .1–0–0–0–0–0 . . . SV: Addison Russ (7), 2–0–0–0–0–2.

Hitting: 1B Darick Hall homered (#9) to tie the game in the third . . . Lead and winning run came in the fifth inning when CF Mickey Moniak tripled in SS Arquimedes Gamboa (walk); triple was his sixth, most in the EL.

Game #2: 7–6 win after trailing 4–0 going into the bottom of the third inning.

Pitching: WP: Jose Taveras (2–0), 5–5–4–4–1–4 . . . Jonathan Hennigan, 1–0–0–0–0–0, three ground ball outs . . . SV: Connor Brogdon (1), 1–2–2–2–1–3, first save in AA ball; gave up two runs in the seventh but struck out the side. Ended the game with a strikeout and the tying run on third base.

Hitting: 3B Austin Listi doubled in three runs in the fifth inning to give the Fightins a 5–4 lead . . . They added a pair of runs in the sixth, a passed ball letting in the first run and CF Mickey Moniak’s double drove in the other run. He also singled in a third-inning run . . . SS Arquimedes Gamboa, 2–4, two runs.

Clearwater, Florida State League North Division

**Threshers (29–26) moved to within 4.5 games of first-place Dunedin by shutting out the Blue Jays, 3–0; their sixth shutout . . . Twelve games remain in the first half . . . Rubber game at 1 this afternoon at Spectrum Field, Colton Eastman (2–2).

Pitching: Two Clearwater hurlers held Dunedin to four hits while striking out 14; staff leads FSL with 540 strikeouts . . . WP: Damon Jones (3–3), 7–2–0–0–0–11, career-high in strikeouts; started with 5.2 perfect innings; leads FSL with 80 strikeouts in 52.2 innings . . . SV: Keylan Kilgore (4), 2–2–0–0–0–3.

Hitting: Three runs came in the fifth inning . . . DH Danny Mayer homered (#4), 3B Jake Scheiner doubled in a run and 1B Alec Bohm singled in the third run . . . Mayer, 2–3 . . . Bohm, 3–4, lifting Clearwater average to .325. Has reached base in 12 consecutive games.

Lakewood, South Atlantic League North Division

**BlueClaws (18–36) lost, 7–3, to the Grasshoppers in Greensboro. They are 8–1 vs. Lakewood this season . . . Series ends at 2 this afternoon, Francisco Morales (0–3).

Pitching: Starter Jhordany Mezquita, one of four Lakewood pitchers, was the loser (2–4), 3.1–5–5–5–4–3.

Hitting: After 13 hits on Friday night, the BlueClaws were held to four . . . CF Malvin Matos, 1–4, a three-run homer in the seventh, #3 . . . SS Jonathan Guzman 1–4, extended hitting streak to 13 games.

**New York-Penn League (Williamsport Crosscutters) season opens June 14.

**Gulf Coast League season opens June 24 at Carpenter Complex. Phillies again will field two teams, East and West.

 

Additional note: the Phillies are fielding two teams (red and white) in the Dominican Summer League, which opens play this weekend.
