First Look: Roy Halladay’s Hall of Fame plaque

Sunday, Philadelphia Phillies Wall of Famer Roy Halladay was officially inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, joining the most storied museum in sports as part of a 2019 class that also included Mariano Rivera, Mike Mussina, Edgar Martinez, Harold Baines and Lee Smith.
Halladay’s Cooperstown plaque says “Harry Leroy Halladay III” with both “Roy” and “Doc” below it, where it also notes the length of his respective tenures in both Toronto and Philadelphia.
His bio reads as follows: “Top-of-rotation workhorse blended a blistering sinking fastball with pinpoint control, earning Cy Young Awards in both the A.L. and the N.L. Eight-time All-Star delivered a 6.59 winning percentage, 203 career victories and three 20-win seasons. Led his league in strikeout-to-walk ratio five times and innings pitched four times. League-leader in complete games seven times, most of any pitcher whose career began after World War II. Threw two no-hit games, both in 2010: a perfect game in the regular season and the second-ever postseason no-hitter in Game 1 of the N.L.D.S.”
Notably, the Halladay family – including his wife Brandy and two sons, Braden and Ryan – made the decision not to have Halladay wear a specific team’s cap on his Hall of Fame plaque. Though Halladay spent 12 of his 16 major league seasons with the Blue Jays, a good amount of his bio is dedicated to what he accomplished in his first two seasons with the Phillies. As he put it in his retirement press conference, Philadelphia was the “icing on the cake” to his career
