Alex Rodriguez’s car was robbed shortly after Sunday Night Baseball

Philadelphia doesn’t tend to give national announcers good reviews, but Alex Rodriguez got one on Sunday Night Baseball when he was critical of the Phillies decision to have Nick Pivetta continue to attack Kevin Pillar with a 3-1 count and first base open in the bottom of the eighth inning. Pillar ultimately hit an RBI triple on a 3-1 fastball, the Giants eventually opened a comfortable lead with a three-run inning and A-Rod led a group of observers puzzled with how manager Gabe Kapler handled the eighth inning.

But while Rodriguez – a three-time league MVP – successfully won over Phillies fans for a night, Sunday proved to be a rough night for him personally.

According Evan Sernoffsky and Phil Matier of The San Francisco Chronicle, Rodriguez had “a camera, a laptop, miscellaneous jewelry and a bag” stolen out of the car that ESPN paid for him and other staffers to come to Oracle Park in to announce the Phillies-Giants game. Per the report, the estimated value of everything that was stolen was nearly $500,000.

Fortunately, even though the incident is believed to have taken place after the game, Rodriguez and other staffers were eating dinner when the car was broken into. It’s not immediately clear if those who broke into the car were aware it was being used by a team that involved the 14-time All-Star.

Overall, it was a difficult weekend for the Sunday Night Baseball crew. While Rodriguez and Matt Vasgersian called the Phillies-Giants game, the third member of their crew, Jessica Mendoza, was absent. Mendoza, per USA Today

‘s Bob Nightengale, was “rear-ended at full speed on the Southern California freeway Friday.” Fortunately, Mendoza appears to be recovering well, with Ben Cafardo, ESPN’s communications director, saying that the hope is she’ll be able to broadcast the Little League Classic next Sunday between the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates in Williamsport.
