Phillies Nation Perfect Season: A pair of grand slams from Ibañez, Howard

Every day until Opening Day arrives, Phillies Nation will take a daily look back at a regular season victory from that particular day in history that you can watch in full in lieu of live Phillies baseball. Think of it is as your daily Phillies watch recommendation.

April 27, 2009- Phillies 13, Nationals 11

With the exception of good pitching, this game had it all. On a beautiful April night, over 41,000 fans packed Citizens Bank Park to take in both the dollar hot dogs and long home runs. Phillies and Nationals hitters combined for seven round-trippers. Only two of those knocks came off the bat of a Phillies player.

The first came with the bases loaded with one out and the Phillies down 6-2. Ryan Howard absolutely crushed a changeup in the middle the plate, sending it into the ivy in center field for a grand slam, tying the game at six apiece:

The second Phillies home run was also a grand slam. This time, Raúl Ibañez came up to the plate in the eighth with the bases juiced and the team down 11-9 in the eighth. He pulled a middle-in fastball to right that barely stayed fair. Once again, the Bank found itself in another frenzy:

For only the fourth time in Phillies history, two players knocked a grand slam in the same game. The last time that had happened was on Sept. 9, 2003, when Tomás Pérez and Jason Michaels both knocked in grand slams against the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field.
