Phillies Nation Perfect Season: The Vince Velasquez Show

Every day until Opening Day arrives, Phillies Nation will take a daily look back at a regular season victory from that particular day in history that you can watch in full in lieu of live Phillies baseball. Think of it is as your daily Phillies watch recommendation.

In his second start with the Phillies, Vince Velasquez delivered one of the best starting pitching performances in Phillies history. The 16 strikeout complete game shutout put the young pitcher in the record books alongside names such as Cliff Lee and Curt Schilling. It was the most strikeouts recorded by a Phillies starting pitcher in a game since Cliff Lee set down 16 on strikes in 2011, per MLB.com. Velasquez and Schilling are the only Phillies pitchers to strike out at least 15 batters and allow zero walks.
