Phillies Nation Perfect Season: Utley’s final walk-off hit as a Phillie

June 26, 2014 – Phillies 5, Marlins 3

On this date in 2014, Chase Utley smacked a 14th inning two-run walk-off home run against the Marlins. It was his first walk-off homer since Sept. 4, 2006 and the last walk-off hit of his Phillies career.

Starter Cole Hamels, who came into this game allowing only three earned runs in 37 innings pitched during the month of June, gave up three solo home runs to Marlins hitters. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Giancarlo Stanton and Marcell Ozuna all went deep against the Phillies’ ace.

The game went into extra innings after the two teams were tied at three apiece after nine. The Phillies had a plethora of chances to score in the 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th innings. In the 14th, Jimmy Rollins began the inning with a single. The next batter Chase Utley fell behind 0-2. Marlins pitcher Chris Hatcher missed badly inside and Utley flicked the mistake over the right-field wall. Utley also had a pretty sweet bat flip to go along with it.

Cody Asche made two spectacular plays in the field in extra innings. The Phillies bullpen also combined for seven scoreless innings in the win.
