According to The Athletic’s Meghan Montemurro, Phillies top prospect Alec Bohm has been called up from the team’s alternate site. The move is not yet official.

The arrival of the 24-year-old has been anticipated for quite some time. Over three levels of the minor leagues last year, Bohm hit .305/.378/.518 with 30 doubles, four triples, 21 home runs and 80 RBIs. The Phillies chose to keep Bohm off the Opening Day roster to give themselves an extra year of control over the Wichita State product.

It is Bohm’s power at the plate that is eye-opening and can be an instant addition to the Phillies lineup. In 63 games at Double-A Reading, the former first-round pick hit .269/.344/.500 with 14 home runs and 42 RBIs. He had an OPS of .844 for the Fightin Phils.

Earlier this week, Phillies manager Joe Girardi spoke about the possibility of Bohm’s arrival to the collective media including Phillies Nation’s own Tim Kelly.

“We get daily reports about how they are doing. He’s swinging the bat well, he’s doing everything he needs to do, but there is no timeline,” Girardi said. “Matt [Klentak] and I haven’t said this will be the day or anything like that, but the good thing is he’s playing well and continuing to develop and that’s encouraging.”

According to NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Jim Salisbury, the corresponding move with the promotion of Bohm could be a member of the current 30-man roster going on the injured list.

The team made an additional move Thursday morning. They added RHP JD Hammer to their 60-man player pool, according to the team website.

Update 2:37 pm: The Phillies have officially announced the selection of Bohm’s contract. He will wear No. 28 and bat sixth and play third base in Thursday’s game. Adam Haseley goes on the 10-day injured list (retroactive 8/12) and Edgar Garcia has been designated for assignment.
