My First Phillies Game: MaryAgnus has all the feels

I wish I could say I have a vivid memory of my first game but I don’t. What I do remember were summer nights spent sitting between my parents legs in the seats of the Vet, bright lights and hot dogs.

I remember very, very clearly the cold of those railings on the 400 level, first row seats, meant to prevent someone from falling over. My parents had season tickets, two seats, in ’81/’82. I was little enough to not need a seat.

Many games were spent sitting on the cement wall of the overhang, arms draped over and chin resting on the railing. Safe? NO… but it was the 80’s – what I like to call the days of lawlessness. Keep in mind, these were the same days you were allowed to take the middle seat out of a mini van and sleep on the floor as a kid on long road trips.

While I don’t remember the game being played, I remember being in the crowd and falling in love with Phillies baseball –probably because it was handed down generation to generation.

My parents and their parents grew up with the Phillies in North Philly at Shibe Park. The attached picture is my grandfather with his father outside the stadium.
