Phillies finalizing plans for fans to attend games in Clearwater, per report

Phillies pitchers and catchers report to Clearwater in exactly two weeks. The first spring training game at Spectrum Field is scheduled for Feb. 27.

Spectrum Field is the spring training home of the Phillies.

According to John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia, fans could be in attendance when the Phillies begin their exhibition campaign. The team is reportedly finalizing plans for a select number of fans to attend spring training games in Clearwater.

The exact details of the plans are not known and it’s unclear just how many fans would be allowed through the gate.

The Phillies are not the only team set to allow fans to return to the ballparks during spring training. The Boston Red Sox announced that JetBlue Park at Fenway South, the team’s spring training home in Fort Myers, Florida, will host fans at 24% capacity. Roger Dean Stadium, the spring training home of the St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins, will also host fans.

The last Phillies home game with fans in the stands occurred on March 10, 2020. A league-wide shutdown occurred two days later in response to the pandemic. Fans were allowed to watch select workouts at FDR Park during summer camp prior to the 2020 regular season. Per MLB guidelines, fans will not be allowed to attend spring training workouts.

Opening Day is scheduled to take place on April 1. The Phillies will host the Atlanta Braves at Citizens Bank Park but it is not known yet whether fans will be allowed inside.
