Travis Jankowski hits first home run in nearly 3 years to give Phillies the lead

Travis Jankowski is in his first season with the Phillies. (Cheryl Pursell)

It’s safe to say that outfielder Travis Jankowski is well on his way to being in the good graces of Phillies fans. In his first at-bat of Wednesday’s game against the Washington Nationals, Jankowski crushed an Erick Fedde cutter deep into the seats in right field to give the Phillies a 3-0 lead.

The Lancaster, PA native got down a crucial bunt against Aroldis Chapman and tagged up on a foul ball out on the way to a Phillies walk-off victory against the Yankees on June 12.

His first-inning home run Wednesday was his first home run in the big leagues since Sept. 26, 2018 as a member of the Padres. He becomes only the third Pennsylvania born player to homer for the Phillies in the last 10 years, joining Erik Kratz and Phil Gosselin.
