Bryce Harper and J.T. Realmuto named finalists for Silver Slugger Award

Bryce Harper and J.T. Realmuto have been named finalists for the 2021 Silver Slugger Award. The award recognizes the best offensive performers by position in each league and is voted on by all 30 managers as well as three coaches on each team. Harper won the award in 2015 while Realmuto took home the hardware twice in 2018 and 2019.

Harper and Realmuto are looking to become the first pair of Phillies teammates since Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley in 2007 to win the Silver Slugger Award in the same season.

Harper’s inclusion in the discussion is a no brainer. He led all of MLB in OPS (1.044), slugging percentage (.615), wRC+ (170), wOBA (.431) and finished in the top-five in on-base percentage (.429), doubles (42), extra-base hits (78) and walks (100). He’ll almost certainly grab at least one of the three Silver Slugger Awards given to National League outfielders.

Other nominees include Juan Soto, Nick Castellanos, Bryan Reynolds, Adam Duvall, Jessie Winker and Tyler O’Neill. Harper would become the first Phillies outfielder to win the award since Bobby Abreu in 2004.

Realmuto finished in the top five among NL catchers in hits (125), extra-base hits (46), RBIs (73), OPS (.782) and batting average (.263). Realmuto is nominated alongside Buster Posey, Will Smith and Omar Narváez.

The winners will be announced during a one-hour special on MLB Network on Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. ET.
