A night after he was revealed as a finalist for the National League MVP Award, Philadelphia Phillies right fielder Bryce Harper was named the winner of the senior circuit’s Hank Aaron Award.

Named in the honor of one of the greatest hitters in MLB history, the award is “awarded annually to the best overall offensive performer in each league.”

In 2021, Harper slashed .309/.429/.615 with 35 home runs, 84 RBIs, 100 walks and a league-leading 1.044 OPS.

Harper edged out Fernando Tatis Jr., Freddie Freeman, Paul Goldschmidt, Juan Soto and Brandon Crawford to capture the coveted honor. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. won the American League’s Hank Aaron Award.

This marks the second time that Harper has won the Hank Aaron Award, as he also won it as a member of the Washington Nationals in 2015. Harper, of course, won the National League MVP in 2015 as well.

The only other Phillie to win the award — which has been given out since 1999 — was Ryan Howard in 2006, when he won the National League MVP.

Harper will find out if he’s won his second National League MVP Award on Nov. 18.
