Former Philadelphia Phillies manager Gabe Kapler was named National League Manager of the Year Award Tuesday after a shockingly successful season for the San Francisco Giants.

The 46-year-old received 28 of 30 first-place votes.

Kapler led the Giants to a 107-55 record last season, which was good enough to win a tough NL West division. Their season ended when they fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games in the NLDS.

In addition to the award, Kapler also received a two-year extension last Friday.

Kapler got his managerial start with the Phillies in 2018. He posted 80-82 and 81-81 records during his two-year stint in Philadelphia, and was fired following the 2019 season.

Kapler eventually made his way to San Francisco when he was hired by Farhan Zaidi, the Giants’ president of baseball operations. Zaidi and Kapler met when Kapler served as director of player development for the Dodgers from 2014-2017, when Zaidi was the team’s general manager.

Kapler now has a 297-249 overall record as a manager.
