While the lockout still has things on hold on the major-league side, the Philadelphia Phillies continued their flurry of minor-league moves in Wednesday’s Triple-A Rule 5 draft.

Right-hander Matt Seelinger was selected by the Phillies in the first round from the San Francisco Giants organization.

Seelinger, 26, spent the 2021 season in Double-A Richmond. He had a 3.07 ERA in 36 relief appearances with the team. He struck out 14.0 batters per nine innings in his 41 innings, but did walk 6.8 batters per nine, well above his career average of 4.1.

Originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 28th round in 2017, he was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays organization in August 2018 for Adeiny Hechavarría and cash. The Rays then dealt him to the Giants organization in May 2019.

In four minor-league seasons, Seelinger has a 3.62 career ERA in 122 outings.

The Phillies signed international free agents Dariam Gutierrez and Eliecer Bata on Sunday, making the selection of Seelinger their third minor-league addition of the week.

Philadelphia did not have any members of its organization taken by another team in the Triple-A portion of the Rule 5 draft.
