As Major League Baseball’s lockout continues, Phillies Nation will look back at one of the greatest players in franchise history in January, celebrating Ryan Howard Month.

A fifth-round pick out of Missouri State University, Howard spent his entire 13-season career with the Phillies. During his time with the Phillies, Howard won the 2005 National League Rookie of the Year Award, 2006 Home Run Derby, 2006 National League MVP Award and made three All-Star teams.

Of course, the most important accomplishment that Howard had as a Phillie was helping the organization to win their second World Series title in 2008. Along with Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins and Cole Hamels, Howard was at the forefront of a team that won five consecutive National League East titles between 2007 and 2011, a period that most consider to be the greatest period in franchise history.

Over the course of this month, Phillies Nation will look back at some of the moments that defined Howard’s career.

Previously, Phillies Nation has held months looking back at the accomplishments of the aforementioned Rollins and Cliff Lee.
