The Phillies officially announced the list of players who will report to big league camp as non-roster invitees. Notable names include Scott Kingery and Bryson Stott. Both are hoping to make the big leagues this season, though one has a much easier path than the other.

Here are the 17 names:

  • C Edgar Cabral
  • RHP Nick Duron
  • INF Darick Hall
  • INF Scott Kingery
  • INF Yairo Muñoz
  • LHP Braeden Ogle
  • C Logan O’Hoppe
  • OF Johan Rojas
  • INF Bryson Stott
  • OF Justin Williams
  • RHP Cam Bedrosian
  • RHP Andrew Bellatti
  • RHP Tyler Cyr
  • LHP Kyle Dohy
  • RHP Joe Gatto
  • RHP Michael Kelly
  • RHP Jake Newberry

Kingery, 27, underwent season-ending surgery last July to repair a torn labrum. He was demoted to the minors prior to Opening Day 2021 after it was clear he needed some time to revamp his swing. Injuries and limited depth prevented Kingery from getting regular at-bats in the minors and his struggles persisted, leading the Phillies to remove him off the 40-man roster.

The Phillies are unlikely to bring him back up to the majors until they are extremely confident that his swing issues are in the past. If the Phillies outright him again, Kingery would be able to reject a minor league assignment, become a free agent and collect the rest of the guaranteed money on his six-year contract.

Stott, 24, is in a much different position than Kingery. The former first-round pick was reportedly told by Dave Dombrowski to come to camp ready to compete with Didi Gregorius for the starting job at short. How the shortstop battle plays out will be a key storyline this spring.
