Watch: Phillies prospect Griff McGarry faces 6 batters, strikes each one out

Philadelphia Phillies prospect Griff McGarry flashed an arsenal at Single-A Jersey Shore Wednesday evening that may earn him a ticket to Reading in the not-so-distant future.

A fifth-round pick out of The University of Virginia in 2021, McGarry struck out all six batters he faced while pitching for the BlueClaws Wednesday:

McGarry hasn’t allowed a baserunner in three innings so far this season, having struck out eight of the nine batters he’s squared off against.

MLB Pipeline has the 22-year-old ranked as the No. 9 overall prospect in the Phillies system currently, saying that his four-pitch mix of a fastball, slider, changeup and curveball is “elite, plain and simple.”

McGarry is currently attempting to refine his control as a starting pitcher, but the aforementioned scouting report suggests that he could become “an elite-level bullpen piece.” With a fastball that sits in the high 90s and has a 65 ranking on a 20-80 scale, that may be his best (and quickest) path to the majors.
