Phillies will reportedly call up Darick Hall

With Bryce Harper out for the foreseeable future, the Phillies are calling up their best left-handed power bat from the minor leagues.

Per Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia, the Phillies will select first baseman Darick Hall to the roster. There’s no word yet on what the corresponding 40 or 26-man roster move is.

Hall, 26, has hit 20 home runs so far this season in Triple A with the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs. He’s hit 54 combined home runs across Double A and Triple A since 2019. He has the best raw power in the Phillies system, but there are limits to his game. His lefty/righty platoon splits are drastic, so the Phillies will look to match him up against right-handed starters. He’ll slot in as a designated hitter or first baseman when Rhys Hoskins needs a day off from the field.

Outside of Kyle Schwarber, the Phillies have little left-handed pop currently on the roster. Didi Gregorius, Mickey Moniak, Odúbel Herrera, Garrett Stubbs and Bryson Stott are the options at the moment. The five have hit a combined 12 home runs this season, with all of them coming off the bat of the latter three players.

Replacing Harper in the lineup is virtually impossible, but the Phillies will look to piece together offense any way they can. Calling up one of the most prolific sluggers in all of minor league baseball is a good start.

Per Salisbury, Hall is likely to be in the lineup as the team’s designated hitter on Wednesday.
