J.T. Realmuto’s unreal hot streak continues in win over Marlins

Final Score: Phillies 4, Marlins 1

Things are going well for the Phillies. They have won their sixth straight game, 11 of the last 12, 13 of the last 16 against divisional opponents and are positioning themselves to make a run for the top wild card spot in the National League.

J.T. Realmuto’s most impressive stretch at the plate in a Phillies uniform continued on Tuesday night against his former club. He notched his third-consecutive multi extra-base hit game, going 2-for-4 with a home run, double and two RBIs. In his last 18 games, Realmuto is hitting .400 with six home runs and 19 RBIs.

Jean Segura homered for the first time since coming off the 60-day injured list. It was his first slow trot around the bases since May 14 against Los Angeles.

Zack Wheeler was not at his sharpest, but he did allow only one run on five hits to earn his 11th victory of the season. He’s thrown at least six innings in 13 of his last 15 starts and has lowered his ERA to 2.63.

José Alvarado, David Robertson and Seranthony Domínguez shut the door with three scoreless innings combined at the end of the game. Domínguez needed only five pitches to get the final three outs in the ninth in what was another dominant performance from the Phillies’ top bullpen arm.

“Everybody is throwing the ball well,” Rob Thomson said of the bullpen. “We just need to keep them healthy, keep them rested, but at the same time, keep the rhythm going too.”

With the victory, the Phillies move to 61-48. They are 13 games over .500 for the first time since 2018 and currently hold a 1.5 game lead over the San Diego Padres for the fifth wild card spot.

“This game is very contagious, the good and the bad,” Realmuto said. “When a team is doing everything well like we are right now, winning becomes contagious. We have confidence every night we step on the field.”

The Phillies will face NL Cy Young favorite Sandy Alcantara for the fourth time this season. They are 2-1 against him so far this season and 5-2 dating back to 2021. Noah Syndergaard will oppose him in his second start as a Phillie.
