Final Score: Phillies 4, Reds 3

The Phillies cruised past the 20-game-below-.500 Reds on Monday night. Philadelphia had four runs on 12 hits and limited Cincinnati to two runs. They are continuing their hot streak against weaker competition.

Noah Syndergaard did not look sharp when he gave up two runs in the bottom of the second inning after allowing a two-out, two-run single to the Reds catcher Michael Papierski. The Phillies trailed 2-0 early.

The Phillies got those runs back and some more in the next inning, as Nick Castellanos, in his first time coming back to Cincinnati since signing with the Phillies, hit an RBI single to drive in Alec Bohm.

Following Castellanos, Edmundo Sosa knocked in two more on a two-out single to make it 3-2 Phillies.

Sosa made two incredible plays at third base on top of driving in another run in the fifth inning to extend the Phillies’ lead to two runs.

Syndergaard pitched into the eighth inning but he promptly gave up a solo homer to Jake Fraley. David Robertson took over and recorded the final two outs of the inning. Seranthony Domínguez came in to pitch in the ninth to close the door for the Phillies.

Mike Minor: 5 IP, 10 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 105 pitches

Minor, who has a 6.31 ERA this season, continued to struggle on Monday and the Phillies took it to him, scoring four earned runs on 10 hits off the veteran lefty.

Noah Syndergaard: 7 IP, 9 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, 77 pitches

Syndergaard looked shaky Monday night, but his performance was good enough to give him a chance at pitching in the eighth and earn him the victory against an inferior Reds lineup.
