ST. LOUIS — Hours before the Phillies open up their much anticipated return to the playoffs against the St. Louis Cardinals, the team released its roster for the Wild Card series:

Among the highlights:

  • Edmundo Sosa (right hamstring strain) is on the roster. He participated in the Phillies’ pre-series workout on Thursday and the club said they will make an evaluation after the fact.
  • Brad Hand (left elbow tendinitis) is one of the team’s 13 pitchers. Rob Thomson said Thursday “I would think he’s ready.” He has not pitched since Sept. 20.
  • The Phillies elected to carry Noah Syndergaard, Bailey Falter and Kyle Gibson, even though none of the three are expected to start.
  • Darick Hall, Daulton Guthrie and Nick Nelson are off the roster.
