The Phillies have an agreement with former Mets starter Taijuan Walker on a four-year contract, according to a report from Robert Murray of FanSided. Jon Heyman reported the length of the deal on MLB Network. Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that the deal is worth $72 million.

Walker, 30, went 12-5 with a 3.49 ERA with the New York Mets in 2022.

He’ll join a rotation that already includes Aaron Nola, Zack Wheeler and Ranger Suárez. The team is on record saying they want to hold at least one rotation spot for a young arm, whether it be Bailey Falter, Cristopher Sánchez or one of Andrew Painter, Mick Abel or Griff McGarry.

Walker all but confirmed the news on Twitter:

When asked, Rob Thomson said Tuesday in San Diego that one new addition to the rotation will be enough. It appears the Phillies will now shift their focus to the bullpen, where they have multiple holes to fill in the back end.

We’ll have more on this story as more information becomes available.
