Look: Progress being made on new scoreboard at Citizens Bank Park

The new scoreboard at Citizens Bank Park set to debut for the 2023 season isn’t completed, but enough work has been done on it that you can begin to see how much larger it is than its predecessor:

This past July, the Phillies announced plans to update the scoreboard at Citizens Bank Park, with executive vice president Dave Buck saying that the hope was to “add a significant ‘Wow’ factor to the ballpark experience.” The new scoreboard, per the team, will be “77% larger” or in layman’s terms, “able to display 516 life-size Phillie Phanatics simultaneously.”

As a reminder, here is what the previous scoreboard — used from 2011-2022 — looked like:

The new scoreboard will make its debut on April 6, when the Phillies welcome the Cincinnati Reds to Citizens Bank Park for the 2023 home opener. 2023 will mark the 20th year that the Phillies have called the stadium home. And the stadium is only three years away from hosting the MLB All-Star Game in 2026, the first time that the event will be held in Philadelphia since 1996 at Veterans Stadium.
