Former Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Roman Quinn was released by the Milwaukee Brewers organization Tuesday, marking the second franchise that’s cut ties with him so far in 2023.
The speedy outfielder homered three times and posted an .895 OPS with the Cleveland Guardians during Spring Training, but didn’t ultimately make the Opening Day roster. Quinn hit .176 in 15 games for the Triple-A Columbus Clippers before being released by the Guardians.
Quinn lasted just 10 games for the Nashville Sounds — the Brewers Triple-A affiliates — before his release, hitting just .121 with 11 strikeouts. It’s unclear if the 30-year-old will get another opportunity in affiliated ball this season.
While frequently injured, Quinn’s electric ability when he got on base earned him opportunities in parts of six seasons with the Phillies, including as recently as 2022. In 493 at-bats as a Phillie, Quinn slashed .223/.300/.343 with eight home runs, 41 RBIs, 43 stolen bases, five defensive runs saved and a .643 OPS.
The Phillies designated Quinn for assignment last June, and he spent time in both the Kansas City Royals and Tampa Bay Rays organizations before the 2022 season concluded. Quinn did appear in 21 Major League games for the Rays, posting a very respectable .262/.340/.405 slash line.
