Bryce Harper was hit with a 90.2 mph sinker in his surgically-repaired right elbow in the third inning of Saturday’s game against the Marlins.

Harper was in considerable pain following the hit-by-pitch from Braxton Garrett. A Phillies trainer immediately came out of the dugout to check on Harper. He remained in the game to run the bases. He was called out at third two batters later trying to steal third in between pitches. Garrett looked up and fired a ball to Jean Segura to record the second out.

He was replaced by pinch hitter Bryson Stott in the fifth inning.

The situation was eerily similar to a play that sidelined Harper for two months last year. Padres left-hander Blake Snell broke Harper’s thumb on a hit-by-pitch on June 25, 2022.

The Phillies plan on having Harper return to the field as a first baseman after the All-Star break. All the Phillies could do is hope that Harper is healthy and that Saturday’s event does not impact that plan.

The defeated the Phillies 5-3 on Saturday.

Here’s an update on Harper from Rob Thomson postgame:
