While Citizens Bank Park has been buzzing throughout the 2023 season, the Philadelphia Phillies have been doing their damage away from home as of late.

By sweeping the American League-best Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field on Thursday night, the Phillies won their 12th road game in a row. The 12-game road win streak is tied for the second best mark in franchise history, according to the club, matching a stretch that started in 1887 and finished in 1888.

Philadelphia will head to Miami’s LoanDepot Park on Friday with a chance to tie the Phillies record for most consecutive road wins (13) set in the 1976 season. The team has a three-game set with the Marlins in the final series before the All-Star break.

As the Phillies became the first team to sweep the Rays this season, they also extended their win streak against the American League to 12 games. They are the first team in Major League Baseball history to post double-digit win streaks on the road and in interleague play in the same season.

The team’s dominance on the road and against AL opponents has helped keep the Phillies right in the wild-card hunt. For example, their recent sweep of the Rays followed a disappointing home series loss to the Nationals, limiting the damage in the standings.

The Phillies (47-39) currently sit in the third wild-card spot in the National League, half a game up on the San Francisco Giants. They can thank their performance away from home for keeping them in the playoff picture.
