Weston Wilson sets new IronPigs home run record

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs crowned a new single-season Home Run King over the weekend.

Weston Wilson, the 29-year-old right-handed hitter in the midst of a breakout season with the IronPigs, hit two home runs on Friday night to break the single-season record for homers for the Phillies’ Triple-A affiliate.

Entering the game tied with Rhys Hoskins for the club record at 29, he set himself apart with his 30th long ball of the season in the second inning and extended his lead with his 31st in the ninth inning. Overall, Wilson went 3-for-5 with six RBIs as Lehigh Valley defeated the Bisons, 11-2, on a historic night at Buffalo’s Sahlen Field.

Wilson’s latest moment was only the latest in what’s been an outstanding year of baseball for the utility player. He’s dominated the minor leagues in 2023 and made two short stints in the majors — the first including a home run in his first career at-bat at Citizens Bank Park.

In 115 games for the IronPigs, Wilson is slashing .263/.365/.545 with his 31 homers, 85 RBIs and 28 stolen bases. His ranks seventh in all of Minor League Baseball in home runs — third in the International League — while his .910 OPS ranks 18th in the IL.

Wilson has impressed at every step throughout the season, making a name for himself in his first year in the Phillies organization. And, now, he has the record book in Allentown to prove it.
