SAN DIEGO — Prior to Tuesday’s game against the San Diego Padres, Phillies shortstop Trea Turner was placed on the paternity list. Outfielder Weston Wilson was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take his place on the roster.

Turner’s wife Kristen is due to have the couple’s second child, a baby boy. He said in a recent interview on Foul Territory that he was expecting the baby to come after the Phillies returned home from the roadtrip.

Players can miss a maximum of three games while on the paternity list.

Turner’s absence comes in the midst of a hot streak. In his last seven games, Turner is slashing .406/.441/1.156, good for an insane 1.597 OPS.

MLB Trade Rumors made a funny observation on the timing of the news:

Wilson said he flew from Buffalo to Detroit, then Detroit to San Diego and arrived in Southern California around 11:00 a.m. local time. He walked in his only at-bat in the ninth inning of Tuesday’s loss against the Padres.

Thomson said Wilson can play “virtually anywhere on the diamond.”

The Phillies manager also said he expects Turner to return from the paternity list on Friday when the Phillies return home against the Marlins.
