Phillies announce 2024 non-roster invitees

The Phillies’ list of spring training non-roster invitees is in and there are some familiar names heading to camp.

Mick Abel, who could factor into the Phillies’ pitching plans later this season, gets his second big league camp invite. Abel pitched to a 4.13 ERA across two levels of the minor leagues in 2023. More eyeballs will be on him since Andrew Painter will likely be out for all of 2024 after undergoing Tommy John surgery last year. Abel will likely begin this season in Triple A.

The 6-foot-8 outfielder Carlos De La Cruz has also earned an invite to big league camp. De La Cruz, who hit 24 home runs for Double-A Reading in 2023, impressed in limited action in big league spring training games last year. The 24-year-old could get a look as an outfield depth piece if he continues to hit.

Griff McGarry will look to reclaim his status as a high level prospect after a rough 2023 season. Spring workouts and games will be the first chance for fans to see McGarry’s revamped mechanics.

Scott Kingery will once again be in big league spring training. 2023 was the final guaranteed season of Kingery’s six-year, $24 million deal. The Phillies declined a 2024 club option, but retained him as he has one year remaining on his original minor league deal signed in 2015.
