A Phillies team bus was involved in an accident following Monday’s game against the Red Sox in Fort Myers, according to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com.
None of the players and staff on board were injured. The accident happened when the driver of a vehicle rear-ended the bus on I-75. Per Zolecki, the status of the driver is unknown, though he “seemed to be OK” at the scene.
Johan Rojas, Edmundo Sosa and Yunior Marte were among the players on board. The bus reportedly resumed its journey an hour after the accident and everyone on board returned home to Clearwater safely.
Some members of the organization stayed overnight in Fort Myers as the Phillies are scheduled to play the Twins Tuesday at Hammond Stadium. Trea Turner, Bryson Stott, Orion Kerkering and Cristian Pache are among the players scheduled to travel to Fort Myers and play in Tuesday’s game, per Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

When you have a team as strong as the Phillies it gives them a hidden advantage. Players need to fight harder for one of the few precious openings the team may have. Thus, the efforts of the fringe players and minor leaguers is demonstrating a higher degree of success than previous years. It is a now or never situation for some of them who have zero options left. I hope they get another pitcher not because they must, but because one of the Phillies’ starters can become a reliever. I am looking at Suarez as the potential shut-down closer the Phillies lack. He might be even more valuable in that role. He has that unflappable personality that is associated with the great closers and when he is “on,” he has the ability to turn bats into spaghetti.
