The Phillies are adding another corner outfielder on a minor league contract.
They have agreed to a deal with Jordan Luplow, according to Robert Murray of FanSided. The right-handed hitting Luplow was recently released from Braves camp to pursue other opportunities after Atlanta signed Adam Duvall to platoon with Jarred Kelenic.
A former third-round pick in 2014, Luplow spent time in the big leagues with the Toronto Blue Jays and Minnesota Twins. His best season came in 2019 with Cleveland, where he posted a .923 OPS in 261 plate appearances.
Luplow slashed .208/.322/.325 in 39 big league games in 2023.
He’ll compete with Cristian Pache, Jake Cave, David Dahl, Weston Wilson, Kody Clemens and others for one of the final bench spots on the roster. If Luplow does make it onto the Phillies’ roster at some point this season, he’ll likely face a ton of lefties. He had a .762 OPS against lefties in 2023. His career OPS against lefties in the majors is .833.
If you recall, Luplow was the position player on the mound that imitated Craig Kimbrel’s setup and gave up Johan Rojas’ first career home run last August.
