Phillies unveil roster for inaugural Spring Breakout

CLEARWATER – Philadelphia Phillies fans have gotten brief glimpses into the team’s future this spring, but will get a clearer picture during the first ever Spring Breakout March 16 against the Detroit Tigers.

Thursday, the Phillies unveiled the roster they’ll take into the game.

No. 1 overall prospect Andrew Painter obviously won’t participate in the exhibition, as he recovers from Tommy John surgery that will likely sideline him the entirety of the 2024 season. However, there’s a slew of other playing in the game that checked in on Ty Daubert’s countdown of the top 15 Phillies prospects for Phillies Nation.

Among the most notable are third baseman Aidan Miller (No. 2 prospect), RHP Mick Abel (No. 3 prospect) and outfielder Justin Crawford (No. 4 prospect), all of whom are recent first-round picks by the Phillies.

The goal of the Spring Breakout is to “create a new touchpoint on the baseball calendar that celebrates our sport’s budding talent.” Phillies fans will have to travel to Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland to see their team take on the Tigers top prospects on March 16 at 1:05 ET. The current crop of Phillies will be hosting the Miami Marlins at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater at 1:10 ET the same day.
